Sara & Dakota Brooks
Tell us a bit about your love story: Dakota & I met when we were 15 years old and we ended up being friends for years, to briefly dating in 2013. We both ended up going our separate ways due to life getting in the way but seven years later we found our way back to one another. We wouldn’t change it for the world.
What were your original plans for your wedding day? We were suppose to have gotten married in June, but due to Covid we ended up switching to September hoping things would be better by than. Ultimately we had to bring our 175 guest list down to 50. Although it was a tough decision to make, we knew we just wanted to be married and it was still the happiest day of our lives.
When you had to change your plans, how did you feel before and after? When first changing our plans, it was devastating, but we knew it was the right call to make. On our original wedding date, we ended up having our wedding planner surprise us with a scavenger hunt, which lead us to a styled photo shoot. We literally made it the most memorable day knowing our big day was just another few short months away. When we got to the second wedding date, we realized we still had so many cuts and decisions to make. Although we wish we could have had everyone there we loved, the day was what it was suppose to be. We never saw ourselves having a small wedding, but we are so glad we did.
What was your favourite part of the day? Our favourite part of our day was finally being able to celebrate such a memorable day with our closest friends and family. 2020 has been tough on everyone, and to see 50 smiles in a room was a great feeling & something we will never take for granted again.
What will guests remember most? Besides the groom’s signature cocktail? I’d say the beautiful weather we had, attending a wedding during a global pandemic and the ability to safely be in a room full of everyone they love for the first time in a very long time.
What advice can you give to couples planning a wedding? Enjoy the process; it goes by so quickly. Remember the day is about the both of you. Do what your heart tells you. Big or small, it’ll be the best day of your life. Love isn’t cancelled.
